What does American Express domestic travel insurance cover?

American Express’ domestic travel insurance policy will cover you for loss of deposits, cancellation charges, loss of luggage, personal effects and travel documents, rental vehicle excesses and delayed luggage expenses.

Please note that exclusions may apply, including changes of mind regarding travel plans, loss of luggage or personal effects due to negligence, and any injuries or losses sustained under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

What does American Express international travel insurance cover?

American Express’ Basic international travel insurance policy will cover you for unlimited medical expenses, along with loss of luggage and personal effects.

Its Essential international travel insurance plan adds cover for cancellations, delays, accidental death and additional expenses following accidental injury, sickness or disease.

Its Comprehensive international travel insurance plan adds cover for cash in hospital, stolen cash, accidental loss of life and permanent loss, and loss of income.

Its Ultimate international travel insurance plan offers higher maximum levels of cover for everything covered on a Comprehensive policy.

Yes, all four of American Express’ international travel insurance policies provide unlimited cover for overseas medical and hospital expenses.

As always, various conditions and exclusions will apply, including pre-existing conditions, pregnancy and injuries sustained while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Yes, American Express will cover you up to a certain amount for replacing or reimbursing luggage and personal effects that are lost, stolen or damaged while travelling.

Under American Express’ domestic travel insurance policy, you’ll be covered for up to $5,000 worth of luggage and personal effects.

Under American Express’ international travel insurance policies, you’ll be covered for a maximum of either $2,500, $5,000, $10,000 or $15,000 worth of luggage and personal effects under a Basic, Essential, Comprehensive or Ultimate policy, respectively.

Yes, American Express travel insurance will cover up to a certain amount for lost deposits and cancellation fees for pre-paid travel arrangements due to unforeseen circumstances outside the traveller’s control on a policy.

Its domestic policy offers $10,000 worth of cancellation benefits, whereas its Basic, Essential, Comprehensive and Ultimate international travel insurance policies offer $0, $5,000, $10,000 and unlimited cancellation benefits, respectively.
