People’s Choice is a provider of travel insurance as well as other banking services such as savings accounts, personal and home loans.

What types of travel insurance does People’s Choice offer? 

People’s Choice offers domestic and international travel insurance policies. There are three options available for international travel insurance depending on the level of cover you require. These are Platinum, Premium and Essentials plans. People’s Choice also offers an Annual Multi-Trip plan which provides the same cover as the Platinum plan for multiple international trips in a year. 

In addition to a Domestic travel insurance policy, People’s Choice has a Cancellation Only plan that is for domestic travel and covers cancellation fees up to a nominated limit.

People’s Choice also offers optional Ski and Winter Sports Cover, Cruise Cover and cover for Specified Luggage Items. People’s Choice says these can be added to certain policies.

What does People’s Choice domestic travel insurance cover?

People’s Choice says its Domestic travel insurance policy will cover you for cancellation or rescheduling; emergency expenses; lost, damaged or stolen luggage; accidental death and disability; rental vehicle cover and legal liability. People’s Choice’s Cancellation Only plan only covers cancellation fees.

Please note that exclusions may apply. People’s Choice also lists a number of general exclusions such as incidents that occur outside of the insured period and claims that arise due to irresponsible behaviour.

What does People’s Choice international travel insurance cover?

People’s Choice’s Platinum, Premium and Essentials international travel insurance policies will cover you for a medical and hospital expenses emergency expenses, lost, damaged or stolen luggage, cancellation fees among other things. A Platinum plan offers the highest level of cover, a Premium plan is mid-range and an Essentials plan is the minimum level of international travel insurance that People’s Choice offers. The Multi-Trip policy provides the same level of cover as the Premium plan over multiple trips within a 12 month period. 

Please note that exclusions may apply depending on the plan you choose. There are also general exclusions that are not covered by any of the international policies such as incidents that occur outside of the insured period and claims that arise due to irresponsible behaviour.

People's Choice Travel Insurance FAQs

Yes, People’s Choice’s international travel insurance policies include unlimited cover for overseas medical and hospital expenses under its Platinum, Premium and Essentials policies. 

Various conditions and exclusions may apply depending on the circumstances of the claim and factors such as pre-existing medical conditions.

People’s Choice says it will cover you up to a certain amount for repairing or replacing luggage and personal effects that are lost, stolen or damaged while travelling. 

Under People’s Choice’s Domestic travel insurance policy, claims may be covered up to the amount of $2,500 at the time of writing. The Cancellation Only plan does not cover lost, stolen or damaged luggage.

Under People’s Choice’s international travel insurance policies, claims may be covered up to $15,000 for a Platinum plan, a premium plan may cover lost stolen or damaged luggage up to $7,500 and an Essentials plan may cover up to $3,000, at the time of writing.

People’s Choice travel insurance will cover up to a certain amount for lost deposits and cancellation fees for pre-paid travel arrangements due to unforeseen circumstances outside the traveller’s control. If your plane ticket was purchased using frequent flyer points, People’s Choice will pay you for the points lost.

To make a claim, contact People’s Choice or its underwriter CGU. 

 People’s Choice says you’ll generally need to have the following information at hand when making a claim:

  • Your policy number and type
  • Information to identify yourself
  • The name of the insured on the policy
  • Detailed description of the incident
  • The date of loss and the loss address
  • Any details of other parties involved (if applicable).

 People’s Choice says claims can be lodged 24 hours, 7 days a week.
