  • Digital wallet: Smartphone payments via digital wallet are enabled for Apple Pay, Google Pay, custom digital wallets, Android NFC, and custom digital wallets with a smartphone sticker.
  • Rewards program: Choose to earn either Qantas points or Amex Membership Rewards points on purchases. Receive other rewards such as complimentary gift-wrapping, complimentary delivery, and invitations to exclusive Cardmember shopping events in-store.

David Jones Amex Credit Card FAQs

To apply for one of its American Express credit cards, David Jones says you must be able to satisfy the following criteria:

  • Be over 18 years of age.
  • Be an Australian citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or holder of a current Business Long Stay Visa (subclass 457).
  • Have a good credit history with no payment defaults.
  • Earn gross (pre-tax) income of at least $40,000 p.a. for the standard card and $65,000 p.a. for the platinum card
  • If self-employed, have been trading for at least 18 months, or 12 months if applicant already holds another AMEX card.

If you meet the eligibility requirements, you can apply online – it will take about 10 minutes, according to American Express. Have your ID and income details handy.

Your official card will take approximately 5-10 working days to arrive after your card is approved, according to American Express.

You will have to activate the card when it arrives before you are able to use that card. You can activate the card by registering for an account with American Express’s online service, or by calling the number on the front of your card.

You can manage your David Jones American Express card through online banking using American Express’s online portal, which can be viewed on a mobile device, tablet device, or PC. You can use online banking to do things like view your recent transaction history, view your balance, and more.

When interest is charged

Interest is charged on purchases when you carry a balance on your David Jones American Express card beyond the interest free period specified. 

When interest is not charged

At the time of writing, up to 44 interest-free days apply to David Jones American Express credit card purchases if you have paid the balance in full for the previous month’s statement and for the current month’s statement.

Your credit limit for a David Jones American Express card will be determined based on the information you provide in your application, keeping in mind the minimum and maximum credit limits available for each card. 

You can close your David Jones American Express account at any time by contacting American Express.

Your card balance will need to be repaid in full even after the card is closed. You will continue to receive monthly statements until your card balance is fully repaid.
