The first David Jones store was opened in 1838 in Sydney by founder David Jones, a Welsh merchant. His mission was to sell “the best and most exclusive goods”. When the original store was rebuilt larger in 1887, it boasted Sydney’s first hydraulic lift.

Today, David Jones has 35 stores across Australia. It remains Australia’s oldest department store, and more impressively, the world’s oldest department store to still be trading under its original name.

The David Jones American Express Credit Card came into being in 2008, offering what was at the time one of the most generous storecard incentive programs on the market.

American Express was founded in 1850 and now issues the world’s largest number of credit cards. In fact as of December 2015, they have 117.8 million cards in force.

When it comes to corporate responsibility, American Express focuses on three key aspects: preserving historic places for the future, developing new leaders, and encouraging employees and customers to serve their communities where they live and work.

Any questions you may have about American Express products (without disclosing personal information, of course) can be asked on their Ask Amex Twitter profile.
