Which major and challenger banks have the most satisfied customers in Australia?
How happy are you with your bank? That’s what we asked thousands of Australian consumers in order to determine which major and challenger banks had the most satisfied customers. A recent Canstar survey found most Australian consumers still highly value the customer service they receive from their bank. In fact, 73% of major bank customers and 76% of challenger bank customers said customer service was a major factor in their decision to remain loyal. In the survey of more than 3,500 customers of the four major banks and nearly 1,800 customers across 14 challenger banks, Canstar asked respondents to grade … Continued

Half of young Australians choose same bank as parents, CUA survey finds
Half of young Australians choose the bank their parents use, bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘bank of mum and dad,’ a new survey has found. The survey, carried out by Credit Union Australia (CUA), found that 50% of Australians between the ages of 18 and 24 opt for the institution that their parents bank with, while almost the same percentage of Aussies (46%) overall felt their upbringing did not make them financially savvy. The results shine a light on the role parents play in informing their children about money. They suggest that in many cases, Aussie kids are … Continued

Facebook may need Aussie banks' help to roll out Messenger payments
Facebook could be adding peer-to-peer (P2P) payments to its Messenger service in Australia as early as next year, but one fintech representative says it will need to work with the banks to make it in the Australian market. It was revealed by the Australian Financial Review this year that Facebook was granted a patent in Australia which would allow it to roll out P2P payments in Messenger, similar to what Facebook has done in other markets, including the United States, France and the United Kingdom. But the CEO of bill paying fintech Sniip, Damien Vasta, said any P2P services trying to break … Continued

Bank ATM Fee Removals: How Experts Reacted
Yesterday Commonwealth Bank led the charge and removed the $2 fee to use a ‘foreign ATM’ which saw the other majors quickly follow suit, but Australia’s finance media haven’t exactly reacted with universal praise for the banks. ATM fees have been cut at CommBank, NAB, ANZ and Westpac ATM machines, while St. George Bank, Bank of Melbourne and Bank SA have also killed fees. This move could save consumers up to half a billion dollars in fees a year, with Reserve Bank data showing that Australians made 250 million withdrawals from ATMs other than the ones they bank with. ABA says … Continued
