Petbarn expressly lists some illnesses and injuries as exclusions that are not covered by its pet insurance, mainly:

• Pre-existing conditions
• Dental care
• Certain treatments like behavioural problems, blood transfusions, treatment if your pet is used for commercial purposes, etc.
• Most elective procedures
• Malicious acts by you to your pet, or a failure to take reasonable care

Petbarn Pet Insurance has a maximum age limit of nine years and a minimum of eight weeks for all types of cover, although all Petbarn policies come with lifelong cover. This means that once you take out pet insurance, Petbarn won’t cancel your policy due to an ageing pet as long as you continue to meet your requirements as a customer.

It’s important to check with your chosen provider to see if they have an age limit on their policies – older pets tend to be more expensive to cover as they are much more likely to suffer from illness or injury than younger pets.

Yes, Petbarn lets you choose between any eligible Australian vet, and in some cases even overseas vets.

Yes. The annual benefit limit and claim terms and conditions for Petbarn’s Ultimate Cover is $20,000 – the details of which are outlined in the Product Disclosure Statement. The other two policies (saver-plus and essential) have annual benefit limits of $10,000 and $15,000, respectively.

Petbarn allows you to receive a reimbursement of up to 80% of your vet costs. The reimbursement you receive will depend on the age of your pet and your choice of insurance cover – for example, the saver plus policy only reimburses 50%.

The easiest way to lodge a claim with Petbarn is to do so using the PetPortal online: visit your vet and upload a copy of the invoice as well as their consultation notes, and submit your pet’s medical history if it is your first time claiming.
