Yes. You can manage your Westfund Health Insurance policy and receive policy documents online. Unless you specifically ask for a printed copy, Budget Direct will send you policy documents, tax statements and other communications electronically.

Yes. Your health insurance does not cover you overseas. If you are travelling overseas, you need travel insurance. Westfund also offers travel insurance, and you can compare travel policies on the Canstar website.

Westfund’s extras policies include dental plans as standard in their policies. The level of cover you need will depend on the complexity and cost of the dental procedures you would like to have covered.

Once you’ve received medical treatment or made a purchase covered by your policy, the next step is to make a claim. There are several ways you can lodge a claim with Westfund Health Insurance:

  1. On-the-spot: Around 20,000 Australian specialist providers have the HICAPS electronic claim system – just make sure you remember to bring your Westfund Health Insurance membership card to process the claim immediately.
  2. Online: Log into your Westfund Health Insurance account to make your claim online. Simply click the ‘claim online’ button and enter the details found on your receipt.
  3. By email: You can make claims via email by downloading and filling in a claim form and emailing a scanned copy of it, along with photographs of your receipts or invoices, to Westfund at claims@westfund.com.au
  4. By fax: For those with a fax machine, claims forms and invoices or receipts may be faxed to Westfund on (02) 6352 3408.
  5. By post: You can fill out a claim form, attach your receipt from the specialist provider, and post this paperwork to:

Westfund Health Insurance will then make the payment, either by bank transfer or by sending you a cheque.

Westfund offers health insurance cover to international students who have graduated and wish to work in Australia temporarily under the Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485). Westfund Health Insurance began way back in 1881 when the Vale of Clwydd Lodge set up an agreement with the Bathurst Hospital to set aside a bed for its members.

In 1953, when voluntary health insurance was introduced, Westfund was registered as the Western District Mine Workers Medical Benefits Fund.

Westfund remains a not-for-profit health fund today, and its roots as a regional fund for miners have created Westfund’s commitment to strengthening local communities. Westfund has invested millions of dollars in regional NSW and Queensland to deliver medical services to its members.
