Click Frenzy Travel: What to think about in the rush
With more than one million people expected to jump on the Click Frenzy Travel website tonight to bag a bargain for their next holiday, one finance expert says it’s important to factor in the need for travel insurance.
More than 750 deals will be up for grabs at the annual Click Frenzy Travel sale across airfares, holiday packages, accommodation, cruises and more.
Webjet, Flight Centre, STA Travel and Intrepid Travel will be among the major travel brands to offer significant discounts during the 29-hour sale open from 7pm AEDT until midnight on Wednesday.
Canstar Group Executive of Financial Services Steve Mickenbecker said while it’s easy to get caught up in the Click Frenzy excitement, he advises bargain hunters to also factor in the cost of travel insurance.
He said travel insurance premiums could vary depending on your age, the destination and how long you are travelling for, among other things.
“Some premiums hardly differ much at all even if you take them out well in advance of your travel,” Mr Mickenbecker said.
“If that’s the case you might as well take it out now, covering you for illness of yourself or a family member which could result in cancellation.”
He said travel insurance typically covers cancellation for up to six months before you travel.
Some credit cards offer complimentary travel insurance, so before you decide whether to sign up for a new travel insurance policy, it could be worth contacting your card provider, he added.
Mr Mickenbecker said some card issuers may require you to book all or part of your trip on the card to activate this insurance, and that in some cases the policies may offer more limited coverage than a standalone policy.
According to Canstar’s most recent travel insurance research, the market average was around $255 for family cover and $125 for singles.
Click Frenzy Managing Director Grant Arnott said he expects 1.2 million people to visit the site tonight.
He said February was a popular time to book a holiday with flight bookings now open for the Christmas holiday period.
People who created a Click Frenzy account before tonight were able to access all travel deals 30 minutes before the sale officially kicked off.
Click Frenzy subscribers who follow the entry guidelines can also go in the draw to win a trip for two to Fiji valued at up to $5,000 and 10 runners-up will receive 100,000 flybuys points.
Some of the Click Frenzy Travel deals available include Webjet’s 10-day China tour from $699 with flights included and The Bali Bible offering up to 78% off accommodation packages at popular resort destinations such as in Seminyak.
