Originally founded in the 1990s as AlintaGas, it has since expanded from WA and now supplies electricity as well as gas. Alinta Energy says it likes to ‘keep things simple’ by using its wealth of market knowledge and power to offer customers deals on energy that are straightforward and transparent.

Founded in 2014, 1st Energy was the first residential retailer to move into TAS where it challenged the monopoly of state-owned Aurora Energy in 2019.It is also one of the few providers that doesn’t charge a credit card fee for paying your bills. 1st Energy pitches itself as a customer-focused retailer, promising its customers excellent levels of service, quick solutions and peace of mind that their energy company cares about them.

Engie

OVO Energy

OVO Energy is a UK-based energy provider, brought to Australia in 2019 to supply electricity to thousands of homes and businesses. 

OVO splits its customers’ estimated energy bills into 12 monthly payments to spread out energy usage costs. This process, also known as bill smoothing, is normally something providers require customers to opt into. A customer’s estimated electricity usage is calculated from their historic use. 

The retailer also  offers EV electricity plans, featuring cheaper rates to charge EVs during fixed hours of the day or night.
