The rise of the air fryer in Australian households

Canstar’s research highlights how the air fryer has become a kitchen staple, with survey data showing:

  • 42% of owners consider the air fryer their favourite appliance.
  • Just under half (49%) use other cooking appliances less often.
  • 34% of Australians use their air fryer daily, while 57% use it once a week.

Just over one-fifth (22%) will follow recipes specifically designed for air fryer dishes, while one-quarter  enjoy the novelty of air-frying unexpected foods just to see what they taste like.

The average spend on a new air fryer is $155, with 39% saying they purchased their air fryer on sale.

Ninja retains top title again

The 2026 Most Satisfied Customers Award for Air Fryers has been taken out by Ninja, marking the fourth year in a row it has won the title.

Ninja earned top ratings from respondents across all categories, particularly in those that drive customer satisfaction most: durability, performance, and ease of use.

Canstar's PR Lead for Utilities & Household, Eden Radford, says, “Canstar’s latest research shows that for many Australian households, the air fryer is a major player in bringing meal times together.”

“Along with being a favourite appliance for 42 percent of Australians, it’s having an impact on how some households cook: nearly half of owners say they use their traditional ovens and stovetops less frequently.

“Ninja’s fourth consecutive Canstar Customer Satisfaction award is a testament to the brand's ability to consistently meet consumer expectations, with high ratings from customers proving why it is the top-rated choice for satisfaction.

“Whether you’re someone who is in the kitchen whipping up new recipes regularly, or perhaps prefer to make quick, convenient meals cooked in just minutes, finding the right air fryer could be a great help in the kitchen.”
