If you can’t do without your morning coffee, but the cost of living is making it harder to justify, then you may be checking the end of financial year sales for a deal on an espresso machine. Right now, Breville is offering deals on some of its most popular models, and is throwing in two free bags of coffee as well as an $800 cashback offer. Maybe now could be the time to awaken your inner barista and start making café-quality coffee at home.
At the time of writing, Breville is offering EOFY deals across its range of espresso machines. Looking for something that won’t break the bank (but still makes a decent flat white)? The Infuser model is on sale for $399, down $500 from the regular price of $899. The Barista Express, which comes complete with an attached hopper to grind your own beans, is $629, down $120 from the normal price of $749.
Keen to spoil yourself with a really fancy machine that has all the bells and whistles? Then the fully automatic Oracle Touch espresso machine is currently on sale for $2,999, down $700 from the regular price of $3,699. Find the full range of espresso machines currently on sale on Breville’s website.
An espresso machine can mean a significant outlay of cash up front, but can also potentially save you in the long term. With the global wholesale price of coffee continuing to go up, some industry experts predict that the price of a large takeaway coffee in Australia could soon be between $8 and $12, so you may be thinking about ways to save.
If you do start making coffee at home, there are ongoing costs you’ll need to factor in, including milk and beans and cleaning products to keep your machine in good working order. All the below prices are accurate at the time of writing:
Currently, a flat white costs around $6.50 in most Australian cities. Let’s say you buy a coffee at this price on each of the roughly 250 working days in a year: that’s $1,625 a year you could be racking up on your morning cup. If you’re splashing cash like this on takeaways already, an at-home espresso machine like the Infuser or the Barista Express (both priced at under $1,000) could pay for itself within a year, not including the cost of your preferred milk and beans.
