The bank has launched Macquarie Marketplace, a platform available within the Macquarie mobile banking app and online banking website.
Macquarie says the platform will give its savings and transaction account customers a chance to buy non-refundable eGift cards discounted by up to 10% from a number of retailers, including Woolworths, Flight Centre, Uber, Jetstar, Bunnings and Myer.
The platform also tracks customer’s total savings and offer “personalised” recommendations based on a customer’s spending habits, Macquarie’s Banking and Financial Services Head of Personal Banking Ben Perham said.
Canstar Research Analyst Josh Sale said Macquarie Marketplace may give existing customers a way to save money with minimal effort.
“While getting a discount on vouchers can save you money, especially in the lead up to Christmas, it’s difficult to say whether consumers will be willing to change banks for this feature,” Mr Sale said.
Suncorp has a similar discounts program via its mobile banking app called Suncorp Benefits, which offers reduced prices on eGift cards at a number of retailers, including Coles, Rebel and JB Hi-Fi.
