Solar tips from our expert

  • Compare solar electricity plans: In QLD, energy retailers typically offer solar-specific electricity plans with generous solar feed-in tariffs (FiTs) and incentives such as access to a Virtual Power Plant program (an integrated network of solar batteries and panels rewarding members with bill credits).
  • Don’t just look out for good solar FiT: Be alert. A higher solar FiT could compensate for increased supply and usage charges. You don’t want to end up spending more than you save.
  • Revisit your solar FiTs: If you’re on a variable rate electricity plan, your solar FiTs can change, as can your electricity rates. Occasionally, re-evaluate your solar plan to make sure its advertised FiT is still competitive.
  • Customer service matters: Solar FiTs as much as the quality of service offered by electricity providers. Canstar’s annual electricity provider ratings in QLD can help narrow your search.
  • Choose a solar system that’s right for your needs: Do your homework on your solar panel types, system sizes and batteries, keeping your household needs and budget in mind.
  • Find a solar installer: Always shop around for different quotes from different installers before settling on one. Canstar’s annual solar installer ratings can help simplify your search.
  • Look at other ways to save: National and state governments may offer solar rebates and/or concessions that can help lower the upfront cost of installing a solar system or battery. Installing a solar battery may help cut your bills in the long run.
