Aussies’ top-rated supermarket roast chicken revealed

Whether you call it a roast chicken, BBQ chicken or a bachelor’s handbag, the top-rated supermarket to buy a rotisserie chicken, as determined by customers, has been revealed.
Canstar has announced the winner of the 2026 Most Satisfied Customer Award for Rotisserie Chicken, with IGA taking out the hotly contested honour.
IGA claimed the top spot with strong ratings across the key drivers of customer satisfaction, unseating Costco after its five‑year winning streak.
How much do Australians love their roast chicken?
Canstar’s survey of more than 1,900 Australians who recently purchased a roast chicken found that almost a quarter (23%) include one in their regular grocery shop. The research also shows:
- 25% like to bring a roast chicken to family parties or gatherings.
- 18% choose free‑range when available, while the same proportion opt for the cheapest option.
- 25% throw out the stuffing.
- A cheeky 4% have passed off a supermarket roast chicken as their own cooking, but that rises to 11% among Gen Z-aged respondents.
Canstar spokesperson, Eden Radford, says, “Whether for dinner, a party, or a quick shortcut to a delicious snack, a hot roast chicken from the supermarket is one of Australia’s most‑loved convenience foods – and with competing options, standing out and winning an award for customer satisfaction is no small feat.
“Aussies rated supermarkets’ roast chickens on taste, value for money, freshness, and packaging, with IGA earning Canstar’s Most Satisfied Customers Award thanks to high ratings across all categories, demonstrating a strong performance when it comes to customer satisfaction.
