FAQs about Canstar's QLD gas provider award
Canstar’s Most Satisfied Customers Awards recognise companies with the most satisfied customers overall based on consumer surveys.
Canstar surveyed 259 Queensland bill-payers with an active mains gas connection about their experience with their natural gas retailer.
Market research company PureProfile manages the survey on Canstar’s behalf.
Respondents rate their satisfaction with their natural gas provider from zero to 10, where zero is extremely dissatisfied and 10 is extremely satisfied. Respondents rate how satisfied they are with their providers in the following areas:
- Overall satisfaction with their natural gas supplier
- Value for money
- Customer service: e.g. email, telephone service.
- Bill and cost clarity: i.e. do you understand your bill?
- Online tools and advice: e.g. apps to monitor usage, account management.
- Ease of sign-up
The winning brand receives the highest overall rating once all the scores from each category are combined and averaged.
Canstar also gives Star Ratings to top performing financial products, and Outstanding Value Awards to providers with a range of high-performing products. Canstar’s Innovation Excellence Awards also showcase products and services that break new ground when it comes to helping customers.
Canstar rates products and services over a range of consumer categories, in addition to financial services.
There’s no one ‘best’ natural gas plan in QLD, as different people have different energy needs. That said, things to consider when comparing plans include:
- Usage charges: a charge for the amount of gas a household uses each billing period, priced in cents per megajoule (c/MJ).
- Supply charges: the daily ongoing charge for staying connected to the gas network.
- Contract type: whether you’re on a standing offer or a market offer.
- Discounts: these may be guaranteed, meaning they’ll apply no matter what, or conditional, which require customers to satisfy certain criteria.
- Other fees and charges: this could include late payment fees, billing fees, credit card surcharges or disconnection and exit fees.
The QLD gas market is not as competitive as other states, but that’s not to say there aren’t good deals out there. If our customer ratings are any indicator, it’s worth keeping your eyes peeled for future offers as other suppliers attempt to chip away at the dominance of AGL and Origin. Here is a list of gas suppliers that currently offer plans in QLD:
- AGL
- Alinta Energy
- CovaU Energy
- GloBird Energy
- Origin Energy
- Red Energy.
No. Your gas bill will be different based on your location, as distribution costs vary between networks. This means, the price of an Origin plan on the Allgas network will be different from the price of that same plan on the Australian Gas network.
QLD is serviced by two main gas distributors:
- Allgas Energy is located south of Brisbane River, on the South Coast, in Toowoomba and Oakey.
- Australian Gas Networks is located nationwide, but operates north of the Brisbane River in Queensland.
