Knock, knock: Aldi Special Buys now available for delivery
Fact checked
Aldi is expanding its delivery partnership with DoorDash to include its popular Special Buys, making middle-aisle bargains available for home delivery across Australia.
From January 7, Aldi shoppers in Victoria can have Special Buys delivered to their door via the DoorDash app. The service will rollout to most Aldi locations across the rest of the country from January 21. This follows the supermarket’s nationwide grocery delivery rollout last year, which initially excluded the retailer’s famous rotating range of lifestyle products.
Aldi’s Special Buys have taken on cult status over the years. There are social media pages dedicated to sharing top finds and shoppers have lined up outside the store ahead of opening hours to ensure they don’t miss out.
While it may seem like overkill to line up for sales on snow gear, Dyson vacuums and pots and pans–to name a few of Aldi’s most popular Special Buys–the significant savings are enough to entice many Aussies to join the queue.
To access the range, you’ll need the DoorDash app. However, it’s important to note that prices on the app may be higher than in-store, and you will likely pay delivery and service fees.
Special Buys are known for selling out fast. While DoorDash adds convenience, popular items may still disappear quickly from the digital shelves, just as they do in-store.
Aldi launches new Specials Buys sales every Wednesday and Saturday. The supermarket is kicking off the new year with its annual Back to School sale, starting January 7. Shoppers can pick up a wide range of school essentials, including:
Later in the month, shoppers can score gardening tools and fertiliser, memory-foam pillows, bathroom accessories, and outdoor games and toys.
During a time when the cost of groceries is a major financial concern for Aussies, second only to housing costs, finding savings at the checkout is a priority for shoppers.
The table below compares average weekly grocery bills and delivery costs across Aldi, Coles and Woolworths. It highlights how choosing Aldi—even with delivery fees via DoorDash—can impact your overall grocery spend over a year.
