Almost 2 million more Australians will be able to use their mobile devices to make quick and easy purchases with Samsung Pay, thanks to a new deal between payment services provider Cuscal and Samsung.
The deal will see 38 credit unions and customer-owned banks turn on Samsung Pay for 1.7 million cardholders.
Samsung has already partnered with Westpac and Citibank, and is in discussions with other institutions (including ANZ, Commonwealth Bank, and NAB) who have not yet signed up to the smartphone payment technology, according to Samsung Australia mobile payments head Mark Hodgson.
Customers of Credit Union Australia (CUA), People’s Choice Credit Union and Bank Australia, SCU, and Teachers Mutual Bank are among those who will be able to use their Samsung device to make mobile payments from Thursday.
Since its launch in June 2016, Samsung Pay is still trying to catch up to its rivals Apple Pay and Google’s Android Pay.
CUA customers get Samsung Pay
CUA customers can relish in the benefits of modern technology after today’s announcement that the credit union has launched Samsung Pay, making mobile payments easy and secure.
Customers with a compatible Samsung smartphone can now download Samsung Pay and add their CUA Visa debit card to make payments “almost anywhere” that you can tap or swipe your card, according to Samsung.
The launch of Samsung Pay for CUA customers complements its existing digital wallet offers, including Apple Pay and Android Pay.
CUA Chief Executive Officer Rob Goudswaard says it is an important step for CUA to provide more choice to customers in terms of digital and face-to-face options for their banking and payments needs.
“CUA is evolving to be a more digitally-led organisation, by working towards being available to meet our members’ needs and provide a quality member experience ‘anywhere, anytime’,” said Mr Goudswaard.
“More and more people are making the switch towards mobile banking and mobile payments, so it is important that we are responding to that consumer trend and giving our members choice in how they engage with us.”
