What are the cheapest NBN plans for seniors?
If you’re looking for the cheapest NBN plans for pensioners and seniors, several telcos offer exclusive deals and discounts. Aussie Broadband and Flip both provide specific NBN packages for pensioners, which include home phone lines.
Keep in mind that any discounts and deals for seniors and pensioners might require you to hold an eligible card, such as a Seniors Card, Pensioner Concession Card or Veterans card.
Currently, Flip offers the cheapest seniors-specific NBN plan in Canstar's database, at $53.90 per month. But make sure to compare a variety of providers and plans when you’re shopping around for a cheap seniors internet deal.
How to find a cheap seniors NBN plan
You don’t need to go for a seniors-only NBN offer to get a good deal. The NBN landscape is highly competitive, so looking for the best price and value regardless of senior offers or concessions is usually the simplest way to save.
Look at the following when comparing NBN or internet plans:
- Internet type: Are you looking for NBN, fibre, home wireless broadband, mobile broadband or satellite?
- Connection type: NBN customers may be limited in speed choices, depending on connection type.
- Price per month: How much the standard price is monthly, especially if plans include introductory discounts.
- Speed: The average download and upload speeds, especially during busy evening hours.
- Modem requirements: Is a modem included? Can you bring your own? Do you need to stay on the plan for a minimum term to keep your modem free of charge?
- Contract term: Is your plan month-to-month or is there a minimum term?
- Customer service options: Including call centre hours and location.
You can filter and sort by many of the above factors when comparing NBN plans with Canstar’s free comparison tools.
How much do cheap NBN plans for seniors cost?
The cheapest unlimited data NBN plans tend to start at just above $50 per month (not including internet deals and discounts or seniors’ offers). These plans feature basic NBN 12 or NBN 25 speeds, with the option to bring your own modem or add one at the checkout.
For a faster speed NBN 50 plan, you can expect to pay from $75 per month as standard. Higher speed NBN 100 (or NBN 500 for FTTP or HFC connections) plans begin at around $85 monthly — again, this doesn’t include any discounts available to seniors or new customers.
Which providers offer NBN plans for seniors?
Several telcos offer NBN plans tailored for seniors and pensioners, or NBN discounts for eligible concession card holders.
Aussie Broadband NBN plans for seniors
- NBN 12 speeds
- 100GB and unlimited data plans
- Home phone included
- No lock-in contracts
Alongside a wide range of standard NBN and home internet plans, Aussie Broadband offers a small selection of cheaper NBN 12 plans designed specifically for senior customers.
Three plan options are available, including 100GB of data with a home phone and pay-as-you-go calls; unlimited data with home phone and PAYG calls; and unlimited data with home phone and unlimited standard national calls to mobile and landlines. Prices begin at $50 per month for the 100GB data option.
Aussie Broadband offers seniors plans to all customers aged 60 and over. However, seniors with faster speed needs can instead select from Aussie Broadband’s standard NBN plans, which include speeds from NBN 12 up to ultra-fast NBN 2000.

Internet and mobile plan provider Flip caters to seniors through several specialised Senior Value NBN plans. These plans are available with NBN 12, NBN 25, NBN 50 and NBN 100 (or NBN 500 for eligible connections) speeds.
Flip’s Senior Value plans are offered at a slightly lower monthly price than the telco’s standard NBN plans, starting from a little over $50 per month for NBN 12 speeds. All plans include unlimited data each month and no lock-contracts.
Telstra NBN plans for seniors
- Single plan for concession card/health care card holders
- 50GB of data per month
- Includes home phone with unlimited standard calls to Australian numbers.
Australia’s biggest NBN provider currently doesn’t offer seniors-specific broadband plans — although eligible concession card or health care card holders can access a discounted Starter Internet Plan.
This NBN 12 plan is priced at $65 per month and includes 50GB of data, plus a home phone line and unlimited standard calls to Australian local, national and mobile numbers.
While this is cheaper than Telstra’s standard internet plans, it’s still on the more expensive side when compared to unlimited data NBN plans from other providers.
Telstra also partners with the NSW Government to help older customers access free or low-cost online training in building essential tech and internet skills, via the ‘Tech Savvy Seniors’ program.
Other cheap internet plans for seniors and pensioners
If the NBN isn’t available at your address or you’d prefer a different internet type, you may have access to other types of home broadband.
- Home wireless broadband: Also called 4G or 5G home internet, this is a wireless form of internet that uses the same mobile networks that connect your phone. Cheap home wireless plans with unlimited data start at around $55 per month for 4G speeds, or $60 per month for faster 5G speeds.
- Mobile broadband: Uses the same mobile networks as home wireless broadband, but is designed to be portable and usually doesn’t have an unlimited data allowance. Cheap plans start at around $15 per month for up to 20GB of data.
- Fibre networks: Privately owned fibre networks such as OptiComm or Gigacomm offer similar speeds and prices as the NBN. However, they’re much less widely available.
- Satellite: Starlink satellite internet is available Australia-wide, with prices starting at $69 per month plus setup costs.
