Red Energy performed exceedingly well in areas that matter the most to electricity customers, achieving the highest scores across the online tools and advice categories, and customer service categories.

Canstar’s Most Satisfied Customers Awards shine a light on electricity providers with the happiest customers in Queensland. We ask customers to rate their satisfaction with their current electricity provider by overall satisfaction as well as important criteria like customer service, how clear their bill and prices are, online tools and advice, ease of sign-up and value for money.

The best electricity providers in QLD

1. Red Energy

2025 is the third year in a row Red Energy has won Canstar's Most Satisfied Customers award for electricity providers in Queensland.

Owned by Snowy Hydro, Red Energy has earned a positive reputation for good customer service and well-priced plans. One of its key selling points is its partnership with Qantas, which sees customers collecting Frequent Flyer points for paying their energy bills. The retailer is also one of the few providers to supply electricity and gas in South East Queensland.

Origin Energy promotes a few market offers with competitive rates. Its flagship offer sits below the reference price and comes with a 12-month benefit period. Its Origin Everyday Rewards plan allows customers to earn Everyday Rewards points at sign-up and through bill payments. As one of Australia’s leading solar retailers, Origin also has specific plans for customers who own solar panels. Origin Energy sits in second place for overall satisfaction.

Alinta Energy is a major retailer servicing New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, QLD, and Western Australia, acting as the primary challenger to the "Big Three" with highly competitive pricing. Its plans focus on straightforward value with zero exit or lock-in fees, such as its Homedeal Select Plan. It also offers access to exclusive rewards through the Alinta Energy Rewards programs, with points earned on every dollar spent on your power bills. Alinta Energy came in at third place for overall satisfaction.

EnergyAustralia has a few offers for Queenslanders to choose from, with varying contract terms and benefits available. Customers with solar panels may also be eligible for its solar-specific offering, which could see them earning a higher feed-in tariff on their exported solar. There are also no exit fees or lock-in contracts across any of EnergyAustralia’s electricity deals in QLD. EnergyAustralia sits at fourth place for overall satisfaction.

AGL typically has four market offers in QLD, with varying benefits and conditions based on personal preferences. The plans come with variable rates and encourage the use of e-billing. There are no exit fees on any of AGL’s plans and for customers with rooftop panels, the retailer also has a solar deal. Additionally, AGL offers a discounted plan for customers who hold a Seniors Card. AGL placed fifth in our shortlist for overall satisfaction.

Ergon Energy operates as a government-owned distributor and the sole electricity provider for regional Queenslanders, meaning they can’t pick and choose different retailers. Despite limited competition, Ergon currently ranks sixth for overall satisfaction.
