About Canstar’s Most Satisfied Customers Gas and Electricity Provider Awards

Canstar’s Most Satisfied Customers Awards shine a light on the brands with the happiest customers in Australia. We ask customers to rate their satisfaction with their current dual fuel providers by important criteria like customer service, value for money, ease of sign up, plan flexibility, online tools and advice and bill cost and clarity.

The best gas and electricity providers in 2026

The brands rated are listed below in order of best overall satisfaction.

1. Red Energy

Red Energy has earned its fourth win in our dual fuel ratings, blitzing the competition by excelling in each category. 

Red Energy operates as an electricity and natural gas provider across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory. Compared to other retailers, Red gives customers a wide selection of market offers to choose from for electricity and gas in each state. The retailer is generally known for competitively priced and flexible plans, along with its ongoing partnership with Qantas.


2. ActewAGL

ActewAGL is one of Canberra’s leading providers of electricity and natural gas products. Operating solely in the ACT and Queanbeyan region, its plans feature flexible payment and billing options. Plans with guaranteed usage and supply discounts may also be available. ActewAGL scores strongly for overall satisfaction, sitting in second place. 


3. GloBird Energy

A rising challenger to the big giants, GloBird Energy wins over customers with low rates and high conditional discounts, such as pay on time and direct debit discounts. It provides electricity and gas across Victoria and the eastern states, offering a strong alternative to the traditional powerhouses. Globird Energy comes in at third place for overall satisfaction. However, it earned the highest score for the value for money category. 


4. AGL

Utilities giant AGL offers electricity and natural gas plans to customers across NSW, VIC, South East Queensland and SA. AGL’s plans are usually quite competitive, and the retailer is big on value-add extras, such as plans with Netflix, along with its loyalty program. AGL Rewards. Welcome credits are also occasionally on offer to customers who choose to bundle their electricity and gas plansL. AGL landed itself at fourth place for overall satisfaction. 


5. EnergyAustralia

EnergyAustralia

EnergyAustralia offers a concise range of electricity and natural gas products to households, some of which offer guaranteed discounts to help keep costs low. EnergyAustralia is currently available to electricity and natural gas customers in NSW and VIC, with electricity alone offered in QLD, SA and the ACT. It’s one of the few providers to give electricity customers a fixed-rate option in most states and also offers fairly generous feed-in rates to solar customers. EnergyAustralia earned fifth place in terms of overall satisfaction. 


6. Origin Energy

As one of the biggest energy providers in the country, Origin Energy offers a range of electricity and natural gas products for households. These products feature variable rates, no lock-in contracts and a suite of value-adds, such as Everyday Rewards points. Origin Energy operates in NSW, VIC, SEQ, SA and the ACT and is also a big hit with bundled utilities customers. Origin Energy currently sits at sixth place for overall satisfaction. 


7. Lumo Energy

Owned by renewable generation company Snowy Hydro, Lumo is the sister company of Red Energy. Lumo focuses on a small range of market offers in each state, with an emphasis on competitive rates. Its variable plans feature no lock-in contracts or exit fees and flexible billing and communications. Customers in SA have access to the Lumo Rewards shopping program, and refer-a-friend offers are available in both VIC and SA. Lumo Energy came in at seventh place for overall satisfaction. 


8. Alinta Energy

Alinta Energy is a major player in the dual fuel space across NSW, VIC, SEQ and SA, offering residential plans with competitive rates and extras such as solar. A big selling point is its discount rewards program, as well as the flexibility of its plans and billing. Alinta Energy is owned by Hong Kong-based conglomerate Chow Tai Fook, but is headquartered in Sydney. The retailer also offers natural gas to customers in Western Australia. Alinta Energy earned itself the eighth spot for overall satisfaction. 


9. Engie

Engie

Owned by the French utilities giant of the same name, Engie (formerly Simply Energy) is typically a price-competitive brand in the electricity and natural gas space. In addition to attractive rates, the provider offers a suite of unique products, including plans with discounted movie tickets or motoring club-specific offers. Engie offers dual fuel products to customers in NSW, VIC and SA. Engie rounds out our list at ninth place for overall satisfaction.
