About Canstar’s Most Satisfied Customers Awards – Gas and Electricity Provider

Canstar’s Most Satisfied Customers Awards shines a light on the brands with the happiest customers in Australia. We ask customers to rate their satisfaction with their current dual fuel providers by overall satisfaction as well as important criteria like customer service, value for money, ease of sign up, plan flexibility, online tools and advice and bill cost and clarity.

The best gas and electricity providers in 2025

The brands rated are listed below in order of best overall satisfaction.

1. Lumo Energy

Lumo Energy has earned its first win in our dual fuel ratings, blitzing the competition with a perfect five stars across every category in 2025.

Lumo Energy offers electricity and natural gas plans exclusively to South Australians and Victorians. Owned by renewable generation company Snowy Hydro, Lumo is the sister company of Red Energy, another popular provider featured in our 2025 ratings.

Lumo focuses on a small range of market offers in each state, with an emphasis on competitive rates. Its variable plans feature no lock-in contracts or exit fees and flexible billing and communications, along with regular new customer and moving offers. Customers in SA have access to the Lumo Rewards shopping program, and refer-a-friend offers are available in both VIC and SA. 

Outside dual fuel, Lumo Energy is also 2025’s best-rated VIC electricity provider and best-rated SA electricity provider.


2. Sumo

Sumo

Offering electricity in New South Wales, VIC, SA and South East Queensland and gas in NSW and VIC, Sumo is a utilities all-rounder. The Aussie-owned provider retails a range of electricity and gas plans for residential customers, some of which feature guaranteed discounts on usage and supply rates. Sumo also offers flexible payment methods, no exit fees and no lock-in contracts. Solar customers can also access higher-than-average feed-in tariffs. Alongside gas and electricity, Sumo also sells home NBN with a discount for bundling with energy. Sumo earned second place in our 2025 Most Satisfied Customers Awards for Gas and Electricity.


3. Dodo Power and Gas

Dodo received four stars for overall satisfaction, value for money, and online tools and advice. It was also given three stars for customer service, bill and cost clarity and ease of sign-up.

Initially operating as an internet service provider, Dodo has expanded into energy in recent years. The retailer now sells electricity in NSW, VIC, QLD and SA, plus gas in NSW and VIC. Dodo’s product range is simple and budget-focused, with just one market offer available for electricity and gas in each serviced state. With competitive rates and no-fuss plans, Dodo also waives move-in and exit fees, although credit card surcharges may apply. Dodo is the third-place winner for Most Satisfied Customers – Gas and Electricity Providers in 2025.


4. Red Energy

Red Energy operates as an electricity and natural gas provider across NSW, VIC, QLD, SA and the Australian Capital Territory. Compared to other retailers, Red gives customers a wide selection of market offers to choose from, with anywhere from two to six plans available for electricity and gas in each state. The retailer is generally known for competitively-priced and flexible plans, along with its ongoing partnership with Qantas. Red Energy is also our 2025 winner for the best-rated electricity provider in NSW and best-rated electricity provider in QLD. Red Energy rounds out the top three Most Satisfied Customers Award winners for Gas and Electricity in 2025.


5. ActewAGL

ActewAGL is one of Canberra’s leading providers of electricity and natural gas products. Operating solely in the ACT and Queanbeyan, the retailer offers a variety of products, including fixed rate options for eligible customers. ActewAGL’s plans also feature flexible payment and billing options, plus no lock-in contracts. Plans with guaranteed usage and supply discounts may also be available. ActewAGL is the fourth-best Gas and Electricity Provider in our 2025 Most Satisfied Customers Awards.


6. Alinta Energy

Alinta Energy is a major player in the dual fuel space across NSW, VIC, SEQ and SA, offering residential plans with competitive rates and extras such as solar. A big selling point is its discount rewards program for shoppers and movie-goers, as well as the flexibility of its plans and billing. Alinta Energy is owned by Hong Kong-based conglomerate Chow Tai Fook, but is headquartered in Sydney. The retailer also offers natural gas to customers in Western Australia. Alinta Energy came in sixth place in the 2025 Most Satisfied Customers Awards for Gas and Electricity Providers.


7. Origin Energy

As one of the biggest energy providers in the country, Origin Energy offers a range of electricity and natural gas products for households. These products feature variable rates, no lock-in contracts and a suite of value-adds, such as Everyday Rewards points. Origin Energy operates in NSW, VIC, SEQ, SA and the ACT and is also a big hit with bundled utilities customers. Origin Energy is the seventh-best Gas and Electricity Provider in the Most Satisfied Customers Awards for 2025.


8. AGL

Utilities giant AGL offers electricity and natural gas plans to customers across NSW, VIC, SEQ and SA. AGL’s plans are usually quite competitive, and the retailer is big on value-add extras such as plans with Netflix, along with its loyalty program AGL Rewards. Welcome credits are also occasionally on offer to customers who choose to bundle their electricity and gas plans through AGL, as well as bonuses like fuel discounts. AGL landed in the eighth spot in our 2025 Most Satisfied Customers Awards – Gas and Electricity Providers.


9. Engie (formerly Simply Energy)

Engie

Owned by the French utilities giant of the same name, Engie (formerly Simply Energy) is typically a price-competitive brand in the electricity and natural gas space. In addition to attractive rates, the provider offers a suite of unique products, including plans with discounted movie tickets or motoring club-specific offers. Engie offers dual fuel products to customers in NSW, VIC and SA, while SEQ households are only eligible for electricity products. Engie is the ninth-best Gas and Electricity Provider in our 2025 Most Satisfied Customers Awards.


10. EnergyAustralia

EnergyAustralia

EnergyAustralia offers a concise range of electricity and natural gas products to households, some of which offer guaranteed discounts to help keep costs low. EnergyAustralia is currently available to electricity and natural gas customers in NSW, VIC, SA and the ACT, with electricity alone offered in QLD. It’s one of the few providers to give electricity customers a fixed-rate option in most states, and also offers fairly generous feed-in rates to solar customers. EnergyAustralia completes the top ten best-rated Gas and Electricity Providers in 2025, according to our Most Satisfied Customers Awards.
