It performed consistently for both Australian and international cruises, driven by its ongoing competitive premiums year on year and suite of policy features. Go Insurance is an Australian-owned travel insurance company based in Brisbane with a specialty in niche travel insurance coverages.

New to the Awards this year, Huddle Insurance has been recognised with an Outstanding Value Award for International Travel Insurance. With three plans that allow for varying cover levels and options, travellers have the flexibility to choose a level of cover that suits their needs, and pick their cover limit for cancellation expenses or purchase optional extras. Huddle was established in 2016 as a technology-driven insurance provider, offering a range of general insurance products including travel insurance. Huddle Insurance is part of Open and is the business name of Open Insurance Pty Ltd.

InsureandGo has retained its Outstanding Value Award for both International and Seniors Travel Insurance this year. This marks its second consecutive year of being awarded an International Travel Award and third straight win for Seniors Travel Insurance. It did so by maintaining competitive premiums across its products as well as with a strong suite of features, which saw InsureandGo perform consistently well across both Award categories. InsureandGo is a travel insurance company established in 2000 and owned by Europ Assistance Australia.

Also new to the Awards this year, PassportCard received a Travel Insurance Outstanding Value Award for the Cruise category, having achieved the top score for domestic cruises. Offering a strong balance of price and features in both the domestic and international cruise consumer assessment profiles, PassportCard has been recognised with an Outstanding Value Award this year. Previously known as TravelCard, PassportCard launched in Australia in 2018. It is also part of the PassportCard Group, who have been providing travel insurance solutions since 2014.

Qantas has retained its Outstanding Value Awards in the Domestic and Cruise Award categories, as well as picking up an Award for Seniors Travel Insurance. Its pricing for travel within Australia continues to be some of the most affordable cover in the market. For cruises, its competitive pricing paired with strong features makes Qantas a solid choice for Aussie travellers seeking travel insurance for a cruise. Qantas Insurance is part of the Qantas Group, which operates Australia’s largest domestic and international airline as well as a number of insurance subsidiaries.

Southern Cross Travel Insurance has received Outstanding Value Awards for Domestic and Seniors Travel Insurance again this year, as well as picked up an Award for International Travel Insurance. In the domestic market, Southern Cross stood out by offering some of the strongest cover which includes cancellation fees, loss of deposit, emergency travel arrangements, and rental vehicle cover. For Seniors, it stood out for offering a strong level of cover at a competitive premium for international destinations. Southern Cross Travel Insurance is a travel insurance provider which has been operating in Australia for more than 10 years as part of the New Zealand-based Southern Cross insurance group.

International

Tick Travel Insurance has taken out an International Award for a fourth consecutive win, continuing to offer a strong balance of price and features. It performed consistently well on price across all regions considered, with its pricing in the Americas being some of the most competitive in our evaluation. Tick Travel Insurance is a travel insurance provider founded in 2015 and also owned by Europ Assistance Australia.

World2Cover has retained its International Award for the seventh consecutive win in a row, while also picking up an Award for Cruise Travel Insurance. For the International Award, World2Cover continues to offer a competitive blend of features and premiums across the destinations considered. As for the Cruise Award, World2Cover performed strongly both domestically and internationally, due to its competitive premiums and suite of policy features. World2Cover is an online travel insurance company that specialises in insurance packages and is part of Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co. Ltd, with offices in Sydney and Melbourne.

Our Star Ratings are designed to help travellers narrow their search and find the right policy by providing a shortlist of products that have been assessed and ranked.

Consumer Profiles & Award Categories

Travel insurance policies included in the Canstar Travel Insurance Star Ratings are assessed across four travel profiles, based on nine destination regions and two cruise destinations. Our Canstar Researchers considered premium costs for each of the destinations across four consumer profiles, accounting for different age groups and consumer needs.

As one of Canstar’s company spokespeople, Joshua has participated in print, radio and broadcast interviews with the likes of the Australian Financial Review, news.com.au and Money magazine, along with other leading media outlets, discussing topics such as home loan equity, banking incentive schemes, digital wallets and wider finance trends.

Joshua is known for his ability to simplify complex products and technical information, crunching the data into meaningful insights for consumers about finance. He has analysed several consumer markets across banking, insurance and wealth, and is keenly interested in various topics, ranging from how Australians interact with their superannuation funds, to the dynamic nature of the health insurance market, and collecting and redeeming credit card reward points.
