Is it worth having multiple streaming services?
While one streaming service is enough for many Aussies (35%), the majority are paying for multiple platforms.
- 26% paying for two
- 19% paying for three
- 12% paying for four
- 8% paying for five or more
If you watch content across different services everyday, subscribing to multiple platforms may be useful to you. However, if you find yourself favouring one, consider cancelling your other subscriptions for a period or sharing account logins with friends and family.
How to save money on your streaming service?
If you’re looking to cut back on your streaming bill, here are a few things consider:
- An internet and entertainment bundle may be cheaper. Some internet providers offer a streaming subscription with internet packages, which could be cheaper in some cases. Of those surveyed by Canstar, 19% said they chose their internet plan for its bundled entertainment options.
- Share accounts. While some streaming services have been cracking down on account sharing, you may be able to share an account with friends or family to split the cost.
- Rotate your subscriptions. Regularly rotate your subscriptions to avoid paying for multiple services at once. Streamers make it easy for customers to subscribe and unsubscribe, and typically bill monthly, so you can turn your payment plans on and off as often as you like.
- Review your plan. If your streaming service has a tiered plan system, you could save by dropping a level or switching to a plan with ads. This could mean savings of up to $12 per month, depending on your provider.
- Pay annually. If you’re loyal to a particular streaming service, it might be worth paying annually for a discount.
