Aussies now have more streaming choices than ever before. You can watch big names like Netflix, Stan and Disney+, or find something different on niche services such as BritBox and Shudder.

If you’re wondering where to start, this guide tells you which streaming services are available in Australia, how much they cost, and the pros and cons of each one.

Netflix

Netflix changed the way we watch TV when it launched in Australia in 2015, and despite other competitors entering the market—and significant price hikes over the years—it remains the most popular streaming platform in the country today. Its huge range of original content, including award-winning movies and shows like The Irishman, Stranger Things and Bridgerton, keep viewers coming back for more exclusive content, while its user-friendly interface makes it one of the simplest platforms available to navigate.

Pros

  • Wide range of original content you can’t watch anywhere else.
  • Live sports events like WWE, boxing matches and NFL games.
  • Access to Netflix games with your subscription.

Cons

  • Tough account sharing policy; additional screens come at a premium.
  • Cost has increased significantly over the years.

Cost

Netflix has three subscription tiers, with the lowest tier including ads.

Stan

Stan’s key difference is its strong commitment to local content, making it the exclusive home of acclaimed Australian originals like Bump, Scrublands, and Black Snow. Beyond its Aussie library, it also boasts a selection of exclusive international series and a deep catalogue of movies. For sports fans, the optional Stan Sport add-on is a major drawcard, offering live and on-demand coverage of Grand Slam tennis, UEFA Champions League football, and international rugby.

Pros

  • A wide range of Australian-made shows and movies.
  • Low cost ad-free subscription option compared to other paid services.
  • Access to Stan Sports, although it’ll cost you an extra $20 per month.

Cons

  • Some shows come without all seasons included.

Cost

Stan has three levels of ad-free subscriptions, with the difference being the amount of screens available and streaming quality.

Disney+

An undisputed powerhouse in the streaming world, Disney+ is home to some of pop culture's biggest universes: Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars. In addition, subscribers get access to ESPN and National Geographic. However, the service's true trump card is the Star hub. This effectively adds a second, more mature streaming service into the mix, packed with acclaimed dramas like The Bear and Only Murders in the Building, as well as a large selection of movies.

Pros

  • Features a wide range of kid-friendly TV and movies and offers a ‘junior mode’ feature for safe browsing.
  • High-quality streaming and a user-friendly interface.

Cons

  • Some Disney movies come with an additional fee on top of what you pay for your subscription.
  • Disney+ doesn’t offer a free trial, so you’ll need to buy it to try it.

Cost

Disney+ offers two tiers of subscriptions with monthly and annual payment options.

BINGE

Foxtel’s BINGE suffered a blow to its catalogue in 2025 when its HBO content moved to Max. It’s now anchored by successful Australian originals, such as Colin From Accounts, as well as a broad selection of international dramas, movies, and popular reality shows.

BINGE also takes advantage of Foxtel’s extensive content library, giving subscribers access to a range of live and on-demand sports, news and lifestyle programs. For those looking to save, BINGE has one of the cheapest Basic plans in the market, with subscribers able to sign up for just $10 a month.

Pros

  • Live channels covering news, lifestyle, music, kids programs and more.
  • A range of reality TV shows like The Great Australian Bake Off, 90-Day Fiance and The Real Housewives.
  • Access live and on-demand Aussie sports at no additional cost through its Kayo Sports partnership.

Cons

  • With HBO entering the Australian market with their streaming service, Max, BINGE has lost some big name shows like Game of Thrones.
  • Live Channels include ads regardless of your subscription tier.

Cost

BINGE offers three subscription tiers, with the lowest including ads. The only other significant difference between these tiers is the amount of screens you can use at a time.

Apple TV+

Apple TV+ has a unique approach to the streaming space, with a focus on quality over quantity. Unlike other streaming giants, Apple TV+ has a modest library composed almost exclusively of high-budget, star-studded originals. From global sensations like Ted Lasso and Severance to acclaimed dramas such as Slow Horses, the service has quickly built a reputation for award-winning television. Subscribers can also take advantage of the Apple One bundle, a single subscription that packages streaming with other services like Apple Music, Apple Arcade, and iCloud+ for a discounted monthly price.

Pros

  • A curated selection of high-profile shows and movies like Severance, Killers of the Flower Moon and Masters of the Air.
  • Can add Apple TV+ as a channel to your Amazon Prime Video account, allowing you to watch its content within the Prime app. However, this option is purely for convenience and does not include a price discount.

Cons

  • A smaller library compared to other big streaming platforms for a similar starting price.

Cost

Apple TV+ offers a single $12.99 per month subscription and a seven-day free trial. Apple TV+ can also be purchased in the Apple One bundle, which includes Apple Music among other Apple services.

Foxtel Now

Foxtel Now is Foxtel’s online platform. It offers access to live channels that cover news, sports, movies and lifestyle, as well as on-demand movies and shows. Unlike other services that offer set plans or tiers, it uses a customisable ‘bundles’ where you add premium packages like Sport or Movies to a base subscription. While its sibling services BINGE and Kayo offer curated slices of content for a lower price, Foxtel Now is the premium, all-in-one option that includes everything in the one place.

Pros

  • Foxtel Now includes a subscription to the HBO Max basic plan with ads included.
  • The Foxtel Now app lets you manage multiple streaming services in one place, although you will still need to subscribe to each platform individually.

Cons

  • It’s expensive, with bundles ranging from $35 to $104 per month.
  • Live channels have regular ads, and the mobile app, Foxtel Go, has ads before and after some on-demand programs.

Cost

Foxtel currently offers three bundles: the Starter bundle, the Sports + Movies bundle and the Ultimate bundle, priced at $35, $84 and $104 respectively. Each step up in price includes more live and on demand content, and everything from the tier below.

HBO Max

A heavyweight contender in Australian streaming, HBO Max is the home of pop culture giants like Warner Bros., the DC Universe, and Harry Potter. However, its main drawcard is the complete HBO library. This adds a catalogue of critically acclaimed dramas and global hits to the mix, including House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, and Succession.

Pros

  • Has award-winning HBO originals you won’t find anywhere else.
  • Includes newly released movies like Sinners, The Minecraft Movie, and Mickey 17.

Cons

  • Has a smaller library compared to other streaming services like Netflix, Stan and Prime Video.

Cost

HBO Max has three subscription tiers, with the lowest including ads. Upgrading your plan will let you download more content to watch offline and enjoy Dolby Atmos immersive audio on its premium plan.
