What online share trading accounts does IG Markets offer? 

Here’s an overview of IG Markets’ online share trading accounts based on the information available at the time of writing: 

Personal account

IG Markets has one personal account for individual traders. IG Markets says this account gives customers access to spreads from 0.4 points, fast execution, research tools and a range of markets. Other features include access to responsive charts, trading alerts and free access to a range of educational resources. 

Corporate account

This account is specifically designed for corporate and institutional use. 

SMSF account

This self-managed super fund Contracts For Difference (CFD) account is for those with liquid assets over $1 million. 

For all of its online share trading accounts, IG Markets says there is no minimum opening balance required and no obligation to fund or trade. IG Markets account holders can also access over 16,000 international markets and one-on-one 24-hour expert support. 

What trading fees does IG Markets charge? 

At the time of writing, IG Markets charges the following brokerage fees for online share trading:

For phone trading, IG Markets currently charges the following rates:

IG Markets may charge a quarterly $50 subscription fee depending on your trading activity that quarter. Customers will not be charged if they deal at least three times across their share trading or CFD accounts during the quarter or hold no open positions in their share trading account at the end of the quarter.

What products can I invest in using IG Markets’ platform? 

At the time of writing, IG Markets allows customers to invest in the following asset types:

What markets does IG Markets offer access to? 

IG Markets says customers can trade over 13,000 shares in the following markets:

  • Australia: ASX 200, ASX 300 and other small cap Australian stocks
  • US: S&P 500, DOW 30, NASDAQ 100 and other small cap US stocks
  • UK: FTSE 100, FTSE 250 and other small cap UK stocks
  • Germany:  DAX, HDAX, MDAX
  • Ireland: ISEQ

Is the markets data provided by IG Markets dynamic, real-time, or delayed? 

IG Markets displays delayed prices by default on all equity markets, meaning it updates 15 or 20 minutes behind the exchange price. IG Markets says you can see raw exchange prices if you upgrade your data feed, however this will incur a fee.  

IG Markets says it offers three real-time price options: 

  • Derived prices – free, and based on the raw data of one or more exchanges
  • Level 1 – displays real-time prices from the top level of the exchange order book but may come at a cost
  • Level 2 – shows real-time prices from the top five levels of the exchange order book but may come at a cost 

Additionally, IG Markets says you can access ProRealTime charts for free if you transact at least four times in a month. However if you don’t meet this requirement or your trade values for the month are not high enough, you will incur a $40 per month fee. 

What reporting tools are offered by IG Markets? 

IG Markets offers charting packages to traders using its online share trading platform. Features include the ability to:

  • Launch live charts on all of IG’s markets
  • Access a range of indicators 
  • Place trades, attach stops and set limits directly from your charts
  • Customise your charts
  • Compare up to six markets from a single chart 

Does IG Markets offer margin loans? 

No, IG Markets does not offer traders the ability to take out margin loans as part of its online share trading offering. IG Markets does however allow customers to use up to 95% of the value of their account holdings to cover margin requirements on CFD trades.

IG Markets’ online share trading platform is secured using a number of measures, including: 

  • SSL encryption
  • Having your money held in segregated accounts at regulated banks
  • Your money is not used for IG Markets’ own business activity
  • Your money is ring-fenced from IG Markets’ creditors

Does IG Markets have a mobile app you can trade from? 

Yes, IG Markets offers a mobile app to traders. With IG Markets’ mobile app, you can: 

  • Trade and manage risk with stop and limit orders 
  • Monitor the markets – for example, customers can set trading alerts and react immediately to opportunities
  • Track market trends, access technical indicators and see what others are trading 

Does IG Markets have customer support services available? 

Yes, IG Markets has customer support services available to traders. You can access IG Markets’ customer support service by:

IG Markets says its customer support services are available 24 hours a day from 7pm Saturday to 9am Saturday (AEDT). 

Does IG Markets offer CHESS sponsorship? 

IG Markets says Australian shares purchased through it are CHESS-sponsored by default and held on the customer’s behalf by Citibank Pty Ltd. CHESS (Clearing House Electronic Sub-register System) is the system used by the ASX to record shareholdings and manage the settlement of share transactions.
