Sharesies Australia has officially launched! To get a run down of this micro-investing app and how it works we sat down with Sharesies’s co-founder Brooke Roberts.

How is Sharesies different from other micro-investing platforms?

Sharesies is the first investment platform available to Australians with no minimums, giving investors access to investments on the ASX, NZX, Nasdaq, New York Stock Exchange (NYE) and Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) – all in one place and the ability to invest however much they want.

We removed the minimum investment barrier that has stopped many people from investing before and will be the first platform to offer trades from as low as 1 cent for ASX-listed companies and ETFs.

What makes Sharesies truly different is that we are more than just a low-cost broker. We encourage users to dollar-cost-averaging, or regularly invest the same amount of money over a period of time. At Sharesies, investing is not a get-rich-quick scheme or about timing the market for maximum returns, it is about building wealth by spending time in the market and investing amounts you can afford.

Our goal is to promote a different style of investing in Australia that focuses on creating the most financially empowered generation ever by democratising access to investments and wealth development opportunities. Building confident and motivated investors is at the heart of what we do and this ethos makes us stand out from existing platforms.

What types of investments will Aussies be able to purchase through Sharesies?

Australians can invest in the companies they know and love across the ASX, NZX, Nasdaq, New York Stock Exchange (NYE) and Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE). Users are able to invest in stocks from Telsa to Woolworths to Air New Zealand – all in one place.

We are the first platform to offer this to Australian investors and by filling this gap, we can facilitate access to a wide range of investment options for people regardless of whether they have $1 or $500,000 to invest.

Is the way that Sharesies works different to how it currently operates for users in NZ?

With the Sharesies platform, both Australians and New Zealanders get the opportunity to choose from over 3,000 companies and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) across Australia, US, and NZ and invest with no minimum investment requirement.

How can Aussies get started using Sharesies?

We have now publicly launched, making the platform available to all Aussies – whether you have $5 or $500,000. All you need to do is sign up to Sharesies at sharesies.com.au. And we’re giving anyone who signs up $15 to get their investment started!

What makes the Australian market different to NZ?

Australia and Aotearoa/New Zealand have a lot of similarities. Australians, like New Zealanders, are facing rising house prices, low-interest rates and a feeling they are priced out, jargoned out and left out of being able to grow their wealth. We’re here to help people develop their wealth by using everyday language and making investing accessible to everyone. Some key differences are the size of the markets and the number of investment options available on the local exchanges.
