Queensland Pays The Most On Health Insurance Premiums

Canstar’s research into 895 health insurance policies from 22 providers found that Queenslanders are paying the most, on average, for health cover – although prices are very similar across most states.
When it comes to the percentage of population covered by private health insurance, Queenslanders are around the middle of the pack in terms of hospital cover (45.3%) and slightly less than the average for extras cover (50.5%). And Canstar’s analysis of more than 50,000 visitors that have actively searched for specific health insurance policies on the canstar.com.au website this year has found that in terms of Queensland residents, it’s all about the package.
From the data, just under 70% of Queensland visitors to the Canstar health insurance tables are looking for a hospital and extras package, with palliative care and non-cosmetic surgery some of the popular hospital inclusions. Cover for IVF is specifically sought by just under 7 percent of Queensland visitors; on the flip slide, sterilisation cover is sought by around 5 percent.
In terms of extras the popular inclusions are the expected ones; general and major dental and physiotherapy.
