Hospital Cover

At the time of writing, Qantas offers the following levels of hospital only cover:

Basic Hospital

This option covers basic hospital services such as dental surgery, the removal of tonsils, adenoids and grommets, and joint reconstructions, among other medical procedures. It also includes emergency ambulance transport (excluding Queensland and Tasmania, where residents are covered by their state government) and emergency hospital treatment within 72 hours of an accident.

Bronze Hospital Plus

Provides Basic Hospital cover, plus a range of extra procedures including bone, joint and muscle treatment, chemotherapy, skin-related treatments and diabetes management.

Silver Hospital

Covers everything in the Basic and Bronze hospital policies, plus procedures such as implantation of hearing devices and back, neck and spine services. However, some of the exclusions include pregnancy and birth services, cosmetic surgery and assisted reproductive services.

Silver Plus Hospital

A more comprehensive cover option where the only exclusions compared with the Gold policy are pregnancy and birth, weight loss surgery and assisted reproductive services.

Gold Hospital

Qantas’ most comprehensive hospital cover option, with cosmetic surgery and procedures not covered by Medicare the only exclusions.

Extras Cover

Qantas also offers the following Extras policies, available either on their own or in combination with Qantas hospital cover:

Basic Extras

Provides a 60% rebate up to an annual limit for a variety of extras. These include general and major dental, optical, physiotherapy and pharmaceutical prescriptions. There is no limit for emergency ambulance services (excludes Queensland and Tasmania).

Family Extras

Provides a 60% rebate up to an annual limit for extras that Qantas says are intended for a growing family, including preventative tests, chiropractic and osteopathy, and podiatry.

Lifestyle Extras

Provides a 60% rebate up to an annual limit on services that Qantas says help you look after your overall health and wellbeing, including dietary advice, gym memberships and personal training, and psychology.

Active Extras

Provides a 65% rebate up to an annual limit for services including occupational therapy and exercise physiology. This policy offers higher limits for extras such as dental and physio, compared with the Qantas Basic, Family and Lifestyle Extras policies.

Top Extras

Provides a 75% rebate on a more extensive range of services, up to higher annual limits. These services include antenatal and postnatal services, orthodontics and home nursing, among other things.

How do I join Qantas?

If you decide to take out Qantas health insurance, you can get a quote on Qantas’ website or over the phone. You’ll need to select your desired policy inclusions and extras. If you request hospital cover as part of your policy, you may be asked what tier of cover you would like.

To help you find a health insurance policy that satisfies your budget and desired level of coverage, you may want to first compare your options with Canstar.

Can I manage my Qantas policy online?

You can manage your Qantas health insurance policy by logging into the ‘Manage your policy’ self-service portal on the Qantas website. From here, you will be able to see details of your coverage, make an extras claim, update your information and manage your payments.

You can also manage your health insurance via the Qantas Wellbeing mobile app, which is available for both iOS and Android, though using its website you may be able to access a wider range of services.

Can I earn Qantas rewards points through its health insurance?

Qantas says that money spent on your premium can also earn rewards points, which are redeemable on a variety of expenses including flights, hotel and travel and shopping. At the time of writing, every dollar spent on a Qantas health insurance premium earns one Qantas Point. You must be a member to benefit, and fees may apply.

You can also earn Qantas Points via the Qantas Wellbeing app by reaching certain exercise targets. The Qantas Wellbeing app tracks everyday activities such as walking and cycling, and provides access to discounts and special offers from partnering companies.

How do I lodge a claim with Qantas?

Once you’ve received medical treatment or made a purchase covered by your policy, the next step is to make a claim.

You can make a claim by logging into the Qantas Member portal or via the Qantas Wellbeing App and following the prompts. Contact Qantas Insurance or visit the Qantas Insurance website if you need assistance.

The Health Insurance Star Ratings were awarded in November 2024 and data in the table is current as at that date, updated from time to time to reflect product changes notified to us by product issuers. The results don’t include every provider in the market and we may not compare all features relevant to you. You can find a description of the initial sort order below the table. You can use the sort buttons at the top of each column to re-order the display. Learn more about our Health Insurance Star Rating Methodology. The rating shown is only one factor to take into account when considering products.

The products and Star Ratings in the table might not match your exact inputs in the selector. Sometimes the methodology uses profiles with categories or bands (e.g. income, loan amount or monthly spend), but sometimes a single methodology, without any categories or bands, is applied. The results will show the products that most closely match your selection, based on our profiles. If you are unsure about any terms used in the comparison table please refer to the glossary.

Companies listed in the table, or in ads, may use or be used by another company to arrange, issue, distribute or sell its insurance policies to customers. For more information on the issuer of the policy, please read the Product Disclosure Statement.

If you are seeking to replace an insurance policy, you should consider your personal circumstances, including continuing the existing cover until the replacement policy is issued and cover confirmed. Your current policy may have different features to products currently on the market. Please consider what features are right for you when comparing insurance products and refer to the provider for further details on a policy.

What is a Target Market Determination?

A Target Market Determination (‘TMD’) is a document that explains which people particular financial products may be suitable for (the target market) and sets out any conditions around how financial products can be distributed to consumers.

Why do product issuers provide Target Market Determinations?

From 5 October 2021, TMDs are compulsory for most financial products.

Issuers and distributors of financial products must take reasonable steps that are likely to result in financial products reaching consumers in the target market defined by the product issuer.

We recommend that you consider the TMD before making a purchase decision. Contact the product issuer directly for a copy of the TMD.
