QLD energy tips from our expert

  • If you’re in South East Queensland, you’re most likely able to choose your electricity retailer, but regional Queenslanders will be limited to Ergon Energy. However, most Queenslanders with gas should be able to choose their provider.
  • If you’re able to switch plans and providers, regularly reviewing your bill and comparing electricity or gas offers is the best way to ensure you’re getting good value.
  • Check the usage and supply rates of your plan, as well as any extra fees and charges that may be applicable — and remember that unless you’re on a fixed rate, your price may change in the near future.
  • Living in the Sunshine State makes solar an obvious choice for homeowners, even with the upfront costs. Investing in a battery can also help you cut your power bills in the long run.
  • Consider using energy monitors, or even switching to a smart meter, to better understand your home electricity usage and find ways to cut down.
