What is Google Pay?
Google Pay is a contactless digital payment system that also allows you to store electronic versions of your banking cards on devices, such as mobile phones and your computer. You can then use Google Pay in two ways.
- In-person payments: Use the device to make contactless payments via cards stored in the device’s Google Wallet app. Compatible Android devices include hardware that allows users to place their phone near a store’s card reader to pay with their stored banking card(s). This is not available to users with Apple devices.
- Online shopping: Pay for items at the checkout, when you see a ‘Google Pay’ option.
Google Pay can be used on eligible Android devices through Google’s digital wallet app called Google Wallet. The digital wallet can also store other types of e-documents, such as loyalty cards (for example Flybuys, Myer one and Woolworths Rewards), participating transport passes, and certain tickets (for example boarding passes and theatre tickets).
