Defence Bank is now one of Australia’s largest member-owned banks, with 90,000 members and over $1.7 billion in assets under management. Initially, Defence Bank was only open to members of the Australian Defence Force, but it has since relaxed this stance and is now open to all Australians.

According to Defence Bank, it is  active in supporting the community. The Defence Bank Foundation is an independent charity designed to help wounded and troubled Defence Force personnel – present and past – and their families, focusing on treating PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and combat stress in particular.
