Qudos Bank was founded in 1959 by 14 Qantas employees as the Qantas Staff Co-operative Credit Union. Initially restricted to only Qantas employees, in 1996 membership was extended more generally to the Australian public.

The Credit Union was rebranded Qudos Bank in 2016, to reflect its move from a Qantas employee-only organisation. Today Qudos Bank says it has almost 100,000 members and assets totalling $3.76 billion.
