Top 10 Selling Cars in July 2018

The results have been released for the top 10 selling cars in July, revealing the iconic Aussie ute has reclaimed its position as the nation’s most popular vehicle to buy despite a controversial engine fault.

According to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), the Toyota Hilux re-claimed first place as the top-selling vehicle, with 3,747 sales in July.

While it is the number-one selling vehicle for another month, The New Daily has reported Toyota Australia is aware of an engine fault in the Hilux that can cut power and disable safety features, triggered by driving in dusty conditions.

Toyota Australia said it is investigating the fault but has no plans at this stage to recall the vehicle, while more of the faulty models continue to be sold and end up on Australian roads.

Total sales for July – including passenger cars, SUVs, light and heavy commercial vehicles and the national government fleet – were down from the same time last year, sitting at 85,551 sales.

In year-to-date sales, the industry experienced a 7.8% decline, led by the large car segment which was down 56.3%.

Two light commercial vehicles again led the market for the month, with the Toyota Hilux posting coming out in first place ahead of second-placed Ford Ranger with 2,950 sales.
