What types of travel insurance does Australian Unity offer?

Australian Unity offers both domestic and international travel insurance. Its Comprehensive Travel Plan policy comes in three different flavours:

  • The International Travel Plan, covering you for a single trip overseas
  • The Multi-Trip Travel Plan, covering you for 12 months and any number of trips in Australia or overseas, for up to 60 days each
  • The Domestic Travel Plan, covering you for a single trip within Australia

Australian Unity also offers the Budget Travel Plan, which helps you save by only covering you for the basics such as medical and dental, as well as the Inbound Travel Plan, which covers foreign visitors working or holidaying in Australia on a temporary basis.

If you’re unsure as to which kind of travel insurance is most appropriate for you, or would like to better understand the differences between the different types of cover, check out our comprehensive guide on travel insurance.

What does Australian Unity domestic travel insurance cover?

For Australian Unity, domestic travel insurance is the domain of the Domestic Travel Plan and Inbound Travel Plan. The Domestic Travel Plan covers you for any trips within Australia or cruising in Australian waters; you’re covered for medical and dental expenses, cancellation and additional expenses, and evacuation and repatriation in the event of an emergency. You can also extend your cover at will, up to a maximum of 12 months from your date of departure.

The Inbound Travel Plan is a single-trip coverage plan for visitors to Australia, covering Australian medical expenses, cancellation and other travel costs, loss of luggage and other belongings, and rental vehicle insurance excess. You can also cover any dependent children under 25 years old for free.

Australian Unity is a mutual organisation that has been providing financial services to Australian communities for more than 175 years. First established in 1840, Australian Unity primarily focuses on three pillars: Health, Wealth and Living. Its subsequent core businesses are health insurance, banking, investments and financial advice, with offerings in many other insurance and credit products.

Australian Unity has been a long-time advocate for improved government policy. In the early years post-WW2, the organisation assisted soldiers returning from the battlefield to access cheap housing for their families; the 1970s saw Australian Unity lobbying for the mandatory use of seatbelts in Victoria, and in recent years the organisation has lobbied for a more efficient healthcare system and strong NDIS legislation.
