Every 5-Star Rated Credit Card Revealed

Canstar has released its latest Credit Card Star Ratings, rating a range of credit card products across 60 brands.

After assessing and rating 196 credit cards, Canstar has awarded 52 products with a 5-Star rating across five cardholder profiles for its 2018 Credit Card Star Ratings.

Understanding credit card users have different spending habits and therefore value different features, Canstar Research assessed personal unsecured cards for a range of spending styles and credit card usage patterns.

To effectively assess the products, Canstar Research adopted five different cardholder profiles:

Low Rate:For consumers seeking a credit card with a low-interest rate and flexible repayment conditions.

Low Fee:For consumers seeking a credit card with low ongoing fees and who may be looking to access some premium card facilities.

Premium Cards:For consumers seeking a credit card or charge card that comes with extensive benefits beyond the standard offerings. Rewards are an added benefit, but not a necessity.

Rewards:For consumers seeking a credit or charge card that gives them the optimal return in rewards points for their everyday spending.

Frequent Flyer:For consumers seeking a credit card or charge card that will allow them to redeem points for flights.

Canstar Research reviews each card based on its comparative costs and array of positive features attached, such as rewards programs, premium card facilities, repayment capabilities and conditions to interest charging.

Be sure to compare cards in the card type that matches your spending needs and check out our guide on how to choose a credit card.

How does Canstar rate credit cards?

Canstar’s Credit Card Star Ratings use a sophisticated rating methodology, unique to Canstar, which compares an extensive range of unsecured credit card products in Australia. All cards were assessed on price and value by analysing an array of factors such as:

  • Fees
  • Interest Rates
  • Number of Interest-free Days
  • Standard Features
  • Premium Features
  • Rewards and Loyalty Programs
  • No Frills Options

Each credit card reviewed by Canstar is awarded points for its cost (price) and the features it offers. These combined scores equal the product’s total score, which is used to calculate a Star Rating.

Canstar reviews credit cards based on a number of factors. Find a product best suited to your needs by filtering your search and comparing products:
