Canstar has revealed the latest Online & Mobile Banking research, rating mobile banking apps, websites, and online banking platforms from 71 institutions.

In our latest review of online and mobile banking platforms, Canstar has given the Online & Mobile Banking Award to 2 out of the 71 institutions whose platforms, websites, and apps we researched. The top platforms and apps came from these 2 institutions: Commonwealth Bank and Beyond Bank.

2017 marks the 8th year in a row that Commonwealth Bank has achieved the award for Bank of the Year – Online Banking. This is based off an assessment of their browser-based online banking platform as well as the functionality of their website (outside of the login).

Commonwealth Bank is ahead in a number of key areas:

  • Helping customers set savings goals and providing progress on the goal
  • Online banking can automatically categories their spending
  • Integration of investments, superannuation and insurances in their online banking
  • Ease of conducting online applications for products including uploading supporting documentation and verifying identity online
  • Availability of online chat and ability to request help by secure email

Beyond Bank, Customer-Owned Institution of the Year – Online Banking

Beyond Bank’s online banking platform showcases several winning features, including:

  • Strength of the online application process including ability to upload documentation and verify identity
  • Instant availability of information on transactions
  • Self-service features including:
    • Cancelling cards
    • Changing limits on transfers and transaction accounts
