How To Convert Woolworths Rewards Points Into Qantas Points

Canstar explains how to convert Woolworths rewards into Qantas frequent flyer points.

Where do I convert my Woolworths Rewards points?

Woolworths Rewards cardholders can convert their rewards points into Qantas Frequent Flyer points using the Woolworths Rewards website or the Woolworths app. 2,000 Woolworths Rewards points will convert to 870 Qantas Frequent Flyer points.

To earn Woolworths Rewards points, customers earn Woolworths Rewards at a rate of 1 point per $1 spent at Woolworths supermarkets, BWS bottle shops, and Caltex Woolworths service stations. As of August 2016, this is the new, revised Woolworths Rewards program, and in fact after several changes it is now very similar to its original rewards program.

The Woolworths Rewards program is free to join.

What can you redeem Woolworths Rewards points for?

There are two “automatic” redemption methods for Woolworths Rewards points.

First, unless a customer changes the default “redemption settings” on your account, they will automatically receive $10 off a future shop at Woolworths supermarkets or BWS stores every time their balance hits 2,000 points. Points are not redeemable for $10 off on fuel – unlike the Virgin Velocity program.

Secondly, customers automatically get a 4c/litre fuel discount at Caltex Woolworths service stations when they spend $30 or more at Woolworths supermarkets.

On top of this, there are several optional redemption methods for Woolworths Rewards points.

Customers have the option to save up all of their $10 rewards for a Christmas shop on or after 15 December.

Customers can redeem their Woolworths Rewards points for Qantas Frequent Flyer points once every 3 months.

Customers are eligible to receive exclusive bonus point offers, instant discount savings, and other exclusive offers in-store, online, and in their email inbox.

What can you redeem Qantas Points for?

Qantas Points can be redeemed for the following rewards:

  • Flight rewards (free flights, discounted flights, and flight upgrades)
  • Hotel rewards
  • Car hire rewards
  • Qantas epiQuire (food and wine deals)
  • Qantas Assure (pay your insurance premiums using points)
  • Merchandise on the Qantas Store (everything from gift cards, to whitegoods and electrical appliances, to jewellery and haircare products)
  • Auto-rewards (points are automatically redeemed quarterly for a Woolworths Wish eGift card)

How do Woolworths/Qantas points compare to flybuys/Velocity points?

138,000 flybuys points converts to 60,030 Virgin Velocity points. This means that 2,000 flybuys points equal 4,597 Virgin Velocity points. Compare that to 2,000 Woolworths Rewards points earning just 870 Qantas Frequent Flyer points, and you might be shaking your head, wondering why you would ever shop at Woolworths again.

But are Qantas and Virgin Velocity points worth a comparable amount? It’s not easy to compare Qantas and Velocity, but the short answer is that it depends on what you want to redeem your points for.

For example, say you wanted to redeem your rewards points for a one-way flight from Sydney to Melbourne. With the Woolworths/Qantas program, that would cost 8,000 points + $34.18 in taxes. With the flybuys/Velocity program, it would cost 7,800 points + $21.11 in taxes. In this example, flybuys/Velocity points are worth more. Read this article to find out more.
