Policy Options: What Westpac home insurance covers

The inclusions below represent a selection of what is covered. Additional conditions may apply to different features. Home and Contents

  • Liability cover for damage to other people and their property caused by an incident at your home connected to you owning or living there, up to $20 million.
  • Damage or loss of your home building and its contents caused by fire, explosion, theft, malicious damage, riot, storm, flood, lightning, escaped water, earthquake, impact, up to sum insured.
  • Choose from 3 levels of cover: Essential Care, Quality Care, and Premier Care.
  • Sum insured safety net of 10-30% of building sum insured, and 5-20% of contents sum insured, depending on level of cover.
  • Emergency repairs and protection of building to prevent further damage or loss.
  • Demolition and removal of debris, up to 10% of sum insured.
  • Professional fees, up to 10% of sum insured to cover the cost of employing an architect, surveyor, and/or lawyer that may be necessary for the repair or replacement of the building.
  • Complying with building laws and regulations, up to 10% of sum insured.
  • Fire brigade call-out service fee, up to $5,000.
  • Replacement of locks and keys after break-in, up to $1,000 (Quality) or $2,000 (Premier).
  • Temporary accommodation while your home is unliveable, up to $10,000 (Essential), or up to 12 months or 10% of building sum insured (Quality and Premier).
  • Temporary accommodation for your pets while your home is unliveable, up to $5,000 (Quality and Premier).
  • Discharge of mortgage fees if your building is a total loss (Quality and Premier).
  • Modifications of home for paraplegia or quadriplegia, up to $5,000 (Quality) or $10,000 (Premier).
  • Outdoor contents stored in open air, up to $2,000 for loss or damage caused by storm, flood and theft and or 20% of sum insured (Quality) for any other insured event or sum insured as part of accidental loss or damage cover (Premier).
  • Theft of contents including portable valuables while not stored in home (Premier).
  • Fusion damage (burn-out of electrical motors) (Quality and Premier).
  • Accidental glass breakage (Quality and Premier).
  • Accidental damage or loss is covered under Premier.
  • Environment-friendly modifications: Installation of rainwater tanks and solar heating, up to $3,000 (Quality) or $5,000 (Premier) if you suffer a total loss and already do not have this equipment installed, as if they previously installed they will be part of your current Building Insurance and will be insured up to “sum insured”.
  • Unsecured renovation materials, up to $1,000 (Quality) or $2,000 (Premier).
  • Gardens and landscaping, up to $10,000 (Premier).
  • Before settlement occurs on the contract to purchase your new home, when you have not yet moved in, you are covered for loss or damage to fittings, fixed carpets and window coverings inside the home caused by an insured event, up to $20,000 (Quality and Premier).
  • Funeral expenses as a result of an insured event, up to $10,000 (Quality) or $15,000 (Premier).
  • Contents in commercial storage facility, up to sum insured (Quality and Premier).
  • Contents temporarily moved out of home, up to 20% of sum insured (Quality) or sum insured as part of accidental loss or damage cover (Premier).
  • Emergency storage of contents, up to 12 months or 10% of sum insured (Quality and Premier).
  • Computer records, up to $3,000 (Premier).
  • Spoilage of perishable food, up to $500 (Quality) or $2,000 (Premier).
  • Damage or loss of contents in transit while moving house, up to 20% of sum insured (Premier).
  • Credit card cover, up to $1,000 (Quality) or $5,000 (Premier).
  • Vet bills, up to $500 (Premier).
  • Domestic Workers’ Compensation to cover someone you employ to do domestic cleaning or gardening work around your home (Quality and Premier).
  • At time of writing, receive a 10% discount for buying a combined home and contents insurance policy.

Building Only

  • Liability cover for damage to other people and their property caused by an incident at your home connected to you owning or living there, up to $20 million.

Westpac offers 3 policy options for insuring your investment property: Building and Contents, Building Only, and Contents Only. The following is a summary of Building and Contents policy inclusions only.

  • Sum insured safety net: 10% of building sum insured and 5% of contents sum insured (Essential), or 20% of building sum insured and 10% of contents sum insured (Quality).
  • Fusion damage (burn-out of electrical motors) (Quality).
  • Accidental glass breakage (Quality).
  • Loss of rent while building is unliveable, up to 12 months or 10% of sum insured (Quality).
  • Damage or loss of landlord’s fixtures and fittings, up to $20,000 (Quality).
  • Damage or loss of landlord’s contents, up to 5% (Essential) or 10% (Quality) of sum insured.
  • Demolition and removal of debris, up to 10% of sum insured.
  • Installation of rainwater tanks, up to $3,000 in total for all items (Quality).
  • Emergency repairs and protection of building to prevent further damage or loss.
  • Professional fees to cover the cost of employing a surveyor, architect, lawyer up to 10% of sum insured.
  • Complying with building laws and regulations, up to 10% of sum insured.
  • Fire brigade call-out service fee, up to $5,000.
  • Discharge of mortgage fees if your building is a total loss (Quality).
  • Emergency storage of contents, up to 12 months or 10% of sum insured (Quality).
  • Replacement of locks and keys after break-in, up to $1,000 (Quality).
  • Optional cover for rent default.
  • Optional cover for malicious acts and theft by tenants or tenants’ guests.
