Margin Call - What's the chance?
May 2009: A year ago, the odds of receiving a margin call were 1 in 10 over a 12-month period. Not surprisingly, the odds have now dramatically shortened to 1 in 100 every day. These are the highest levels since the RBA started keeping records almost a decade ago in 2000.It’s more than likely margin loan investors would have experienced a margin call during the final quarter of last year. However investors with a higher gearing would have been most susceptible to the dreaded calls. Those better placed to keep on top of their LVR limits may well have avoided a margin call.
