Policy Options: What CommInsure home insurance covers

The inclusions below represent a selection of the features available. Additional conditions may apply to different features. Please ensure that you read the product disclosure statement to determine all the current loan terms and conditions for the product you are considering.

Compare Home and Contents Insurance

Residential Home Package

This package is available as Home and Contents insurance, Building Only insurance, or Contents Only insurance. Depending on your choice of cover, the package may include the following:

  • Liability cover for damage to other people and their property caused by an incident at your home connected to you owning or living there, up to $20 million. Legal expenses for lawyer appointed by CommInsure to act on your behalf, up to $500,000.
  • Damage or loss of your home building and its contents caused by fire, flood, storm, earthquake, lightning, theft or attempted theft, vandalism or malicious damage, riot, explosion, escaped liquid, sudden impact, or animals who don’t live at your property, up to maximum claim limit for each insured event.
  • Gap cover of up to 25% of your Building or Contents sum insured.
  • Emergency repairs and protection of building to prevent further damage or loss from an insured event, up to reasonable costs.
  • Demolition and removal of debris.
  • Temporary accommodation while your home is unliveable, up to reasonable costs for up to 52 weeks.
  • Discharge of mortgage fees if your building is a total loss. For Contents Only policies, discharge of mortgage will only apply for strata titled properties.
  • Storage fees for contents, up to 120 days.
  • Moving within Australia (Home and Contents and Contents Only policies), for up to 14 days.
  • Outdoor contents stored in open air, up to 10% of sum insured.
  • Accidental glass breakage including windows and cooktops.
  • Fusion damage (burn-out of electrical motors) of motors less than 15 years old, up to cost of repairs and call-out of repairman.
  • Damage caused by emergency services.
  • Collection, pair, or set of items, up to the amount CommInsure deems to be a reasonable proportion of the value of the collection/pair/set.
  • Spoilage of perishable food, up to $750.
  • Credit card fraud cover, up to $5,000.
  • Guests’ property, up to $2,000.
  • Domestic pet cover: Vet bills for an accidental injury to your cat or dog up to $1,000, and alternative accommodation up to $3,000.
  • Contents temporarily removed from your home (Home and Contents and Contents Only policies), up to 20% of contents sum insured.
  • Contents temporarily in transit, up to 20% of your contents sum insured.
  • Cover for portable valuables while away from home, included as standard.
  • Unregistered motorcycles of less than 125cc stored on the property, up to $1,000.
  • Spare parts and accessories of motor vehicles, watercraft, etc., up to $1,000.
  • Optional cover for Domestic Workers Compensation to cover someone you employ to do domestic cleaning or gardening work around your home (Contents Only policies).
  • Optional cover for accidental damage of building or contents. (Excludes clothing, trees and plants, jewellery, or equipment in use such as bicycles while being ridden and musical instruments while being played. Excludes accidental damage caused by domestic pets or firearms.)

Portable Contents

This policy will cover your portable contents at home, away from home anywhere in Australia and New Zealand, and worldwide for the first 30 days of your trip overseas.

  • Damage or loss to your portable contents items while they are at home or away from home caused by theft, accidental loss, or damage.
  • Choose between Customised or Packaged Cover: Customised covers portable contents up to individual sum insureds for each insured item. Packaged covers portable contents up to $1,000 per insured item, up to a maximum claim amount of between $2,000 and $7,500.
  • Excludes intentional acts caused by you, your family, someone accessing your items with your consent, someone who lives with you, or someone accessing your items with the consent of someone who lives with you.
  • Excludes damage caused by computer virus.
  • Excludes wear and tear; mildew, mould, or rot; electrical or mechanical breakdown or failure; cleaning or alteration; or vermin.

Investment Home Package (Landlord Insurance)

This package is available as Home and Contents insurance, Building Only insurance, or Contents Only insurance. Depending on your choice of cover, the package may include the following:

  • Liability cover for damage to other people and their property caused by an incident at your home connected to you owning or living there, up to $20 million. Legal expenses for lawyer appointed by CommInsure to act on your behalf, up to $500,000.

  • Malicious damage or theft by tenants that has been reported to police.
  • Collection, pair, or set of items, up to the amount CommInsure deems to be a reasonable proportion of the value of the collection/pair/set.
