Citi credit card FAQs

To apply for the Citi credit card, you must be able to satisfy the following criteria:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be an Australian resident
  • Earn the specified minimum income requirement

For more information on eligibility criteria, refer to the Citi website.

First, check whether you are eligible to apply for a Citi credit card. See above for the eligibility requirements.

If you meet the eligibility requirements, you can apply online – it takes about 15 minutes, according to Citi. Have your ID and income details handy.

You can expect to receive a response in around 60 seconds (Citi). In some cases, an instant response cannot be made and you will need to provide further information before the card can be approved; in this case, the card provider will contact you. You can check your application status at any time online, via the online email contact form, or by calling 13 24 84 (within Australia) with your Application ID number.

You can manage your Citi credit card through Citi online banking. Use online banking to do things like view your recent transaction history, view your balance, edit recurring payments, and more.

When interest is charged:

Interest is charged when you carry a balance on your Citi credit card. Interest is charged on cash advances and bank cheques from the date of withdrawal (fees and charges apply) and balance transfers from the date of transfer.

When interest is not charged:

Up to 55 interest-free days apply to Citi credit card purchases if you have paid the balance in full for the previous month’s statement and for the current month’s statement (the statement on which the purchases are listed).

Your credit limit for a Citi credit card will be determined based on the information you provide in your application, keeping in mind the minimum and maximum credit limits available for each card.

You can request a decrease in credit limit at any time, keeping in mind the minimum credit limits on each card.

Citi credit cards offer the option of having up to 4 additional cardholders (aged over 16 years old) attached to your account. Additional cardholders receive their own Citi credit card linked to your account, and all transactions made using additional cards will be itemised separately on your credit card statement. Request an additional cardholder through online banking or by calling CitiPhone on 13 CITI (13 24 84).

You can close your Citi credit card account at any time by contacting CitiPhone:

  • Phone: 13 CITI (13 24 84) (within Australia) or + 61 2 8225 0615 (from overseas) (open 24 hours, 7 days, Mon-Sun)

Your card balance will need to be repaid in full even after the card is closed. You will continue to receive monthly statements until your card balance is fully repaid.

If you are experiencing financial hardship, contact the Hardship Assistance team to get help in making repayments:

  • Phone: 1800 722 879 (open Mon-Fri)

If you are closing your Citi credit card because you’re not satisfied with it, consider your other options when it comes to credit cards:
