ANZ Travel Adventures

Australians love to travel – and often travelling requires a credit card to take for the trip. CANSTAR has assessed 190 credit cards in terms of the valu
e they provide to international travellers; one new card on the block that impressed the Research team this year is the ANZ Travel Adventures credit card, newly launched to market in June 2016.

The card gives customers a complimentary return flight within Australia and two lounge passes each year, and no overseas transaction fees on purchases.

The new ANZ Travel Adventures card also offers a range of other benefits, including uncapped rewards points so customers can get the most out of every dollar they spend.

ANZ Travel Adventures Card offers…

At time of writing, the ANZ Travel Adventures Card offers:

  • One complimentary Virgin Australia domestic return flight per year
  • Two Virgin Lounge passes each year
  • Complimentary overseas travel and medical insurance,
  • 55 days interest free on purchases and
  • No fees on purchases made overseas.

The Travel Adventures card is available as an ANZ Visa or American Express card.

To activate the benefits customers must spend $500 in the first three months, which are then offered every year by paying the annual fee of $225.

CANSTAR caught up with ANZ Head of Consumer Cards Australia, Adriana Martinez, to find out what the consumer reception has been like thus far:

Q: Has ANZ been happy with the takeup of the ANZ Travel Adventures Card so far?

A: The response to our new ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures Card has been very positive – it has become our number one selling reward card since we launched it in June.  We don’t want to become complacent though and we remain committed to understanding the needs of our credit card customers so we can keep delivering value for them.

Q: The free domestic flight is a terrific benefit. While it’s early days, are there any preferred destinations that you are seeing?

A: The complimentary return flight is a great benefit and one that can be enjoyed annually.  Not surprisingly Sydney, Melbourne and Perth are key destinations representing about 70 per cent of bookings.  The most popular return trip booked to date has been Melbourne-Perth.  The Adventures card offers a wide variety of destinations around Australia with no black-out dates.  All customers need to do is book their preferred destination 60 days in advance, making it easy to take advantage of all the card has to offer.

Q: This card is targeted at customers who love to travel – does it seem to be appealing to any one demographic in particular?

A: The ANZ Adventures Card has been designed for customers who currently travel but also individuals and families who want to travel more often.  We are seeing a good spread of applications across age ranges, gender and geographies, suggesting broad-based customer appeal.
