Policy Options: What ANZ home insurance covers

The inclusions below represent a selection of what is covered. Additional conditions may apply to different features. Home and Contents

  • Liability cover for damage to other people and their property caused by an incident at your home connected to you owning or living there, up to $20 million.
  • Damage or loss of your home building and its contents caused by fire or explosion, flood, storm, theft and attempted theft, vandalism or malicious damage, riot, accidental damage, escaped water, lightning and power surge caused by an outside source, earthquake, tsunami, impact, landslide, up to sum insured.
  • Full building replacement.
  • New-for-old replacement of contents, regardless of age.
  • Replacement of locks and keys after break-in.
  • Accidental breakage and accidental damage.
  • Fusion damage (burn-out of electrical motors), up to cost of repairing or replacing motor.
  • Temporary accommodation for you and your pets while your home is unliveable, up to 12 months or 10% of building sum insured.
  • Storage costs for contents while home is being rebuilt, up to 12 months.
  • Demolition and removal of debris.
  • Architect, surveyor and legal costs to rebuild your house after an insured event.
  • Modifications of home for disability as a result of an insured event, up to $10,000 or $20,000 for over 50s.
  • Funeral expenses as a result of an insured event, up to $10,000 or $20,000 for over 50s.
  • Broken bone fracture that occurs at home and results in hospitalisation, for over 50s only, for $500 per incident up to $1,000.
  • Discharge of mortgage fees if your building is a total loss, up to legal fees only.
  • Contents away from home anywhere in the world, for 120 days, up to $15,000 or 25% of contents sum insured.
  • Contents temporarily in transit when moving house, up to $10,000.
  • Contents in a commercial storage facility in Australia, up to the total contents sum insured.
  • Trees and plants in pots covered under contents; trees and plants in ground covered under home building, up to $1,500. (Only in the case of burglary, break – in, theft, fire or explosion, vandalism or malicious act or impact damage).
  • Guests’ and visitors’ property, up to $7,500.
  • Document damage, up to $1,000.
  • Spoilage of perishable food
  • Vet bills for an accidental injury to your cat or dog, up to $500 or $1,000 for over 50s.
  • Travel cancellation insurance for travel cancelled after fire or explosion, storm or flood, or theft or break-in, up to $1,000.
  • Domestic Workers’ Compensation for the ACT, Tasmania, WA, and the NT, to cover someone you employ to do domestic cleaning or gardening work around your home.

Building Only

  • Accidental breakage and accidental damage.
  • Fusion damage (burn-out of electrical motors), up to cost of repairing or replacing motor.

Landlord Insurance

There are three levels of cover for landlord insurance: Building and Contents, Building Only, and Contents Only. Coverage varies depending on your choice of policy.

  • Liability cover for damage to other people and their property caused by an incident at your home connected to you owning or living there, up to $20 million.
  • Damage or loss of your investment property building and contents you own or are responsible for, caused by fire or explosion, flood, storm, theft and attempted theft, vandalism or malicious damage, riot, accidental damage, escaped water, lightning and power surge caused by an outside source, earthquake, tsunami, impact, landslide, up to sum insured.
  • Full building replacement.
  • New-for-old replacement of contents, regardless of age.
  • Replacement of locks and keys after break-in.
  • Accidental breakage and accidental damage.
  • Fusion damage (burn-out of electrical motors), up to cost of repairing or replacing motor.
  • Demolition and removal of debris at reasonable cost.
  • Architect, surveyor and legal costs to rebuild your house after an insured event.
  • Discharge of mortgage fees if your building is a total loss, up to legal fees only.
  • Trees and plants in pots covered under contents; trees and plants in ground covered under home building, up to $1,500. (Only in the case of burglary, break – in, theft, fire or explosion, vandalism or malicious act or impact damage).
  • Loss of rent, up to $52,000 a year for up to 12 months.
  • Death of your sole tenant, 2 weeks’ rent up to $2,000 total – the amount and period also applies if you lose rental income due your rental agreement being legally terminated.
  • Rental default, up to $5,000.
  • Legal costs related to theft or default by tenant, up to $5,000.

  • Loyalty discount: At the time of writing, ANZ offers a 15% discount for loyalty in holding two or more of your home or car insurance policies with them.
  • Premium cost-reducing measures: You can remove certain items from your cover to reduce your premium, such as “contents away from home”. You can increase your excess to reduce your premium. You may also be eligible for the over 50s discount.
